I could have done without the humor aspects, and some things were wonky, but overall, very cool and unique. I love how it had a map where you could go from Point A, to Point B, to Point C, then back to Point B or whatever. The items were cool too, like the red suit of armor or whatever it was.Stripehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03956310256102950543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5567207519106782296.post-81275224725079569892014-01-14T01:25:21.210-06:002014-01-14T01:25:21.210-06:00Great Blog!! You're accompanied by a dog which you can assist you if you so choose, provided its energy isn't depleted. One of the more memorable aspects of the game was that in each stage you'd encounter a juvenile female peddler. She'd sell anything from powerups to a health increase for your mutt. You could even irritate her by attempting to purchase an item with insufficient funds. First stage was a mountain and the boss was a shield and sword wielding creature. A bat-like creature kept overhead and would only attack you when summoned by the other. Second stage was a castle or palace. Boss there was a giant robot/ogre personality. Third was...I dunno. Can't adequately describe it. Weird springs to mind. Had coccoons and zombie type creatures. Fourth was some fire/lava stage... I think. Didn't make it beyond that. Game was decidedly anime styled. The peddler spoke in Japanese or Chinese??? If anyone can help... I'd so be grateful...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5567207519106782296.post-46922077231506328042011-06-03T15:29:32.695-05:002011-06-03T15:29:32.695-05:00Kabuki - Quantum Fighter is a fun little Ninja Gai...Kabuki - Quantum Fighter is a fun little Ninja Gaiden clone. There are one or two tricky parts but overall it's easy and well worth a playthrough.

Cosmo Police Galivan is almost a great game but the endless grinding makes it tedious. Also it's got those classic NES "secrets" that really benefit from GameFAQs. It's definitely worth playing, but I only managed to get 80% of the way through or so before losing interest.

Also if you like Little Samson you have to check out Takeru's earlier platformer, Cocoron. If you don't know what Cocoron is, I'll just mention that it has multiple characters and a sort of leveling system... and you create the characters.

Getsu Fuuma Den is awesome and super hard. It has RPG elements and beautiful graphics.

Conquest of the Crystal Palace
Clash at Demonhead
Blaster Master
Ninja Jajamaru
the NES is full of excellent platformers.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5567207519106782296.post-57097728644793701022011-05-30T09:59:52.814-05:002011-05-30T09:59:52.814-05:00Totally forgot Little Samson, one of the best game...Totally forgot Little Samson, one of the best games on the system!8bitcityhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07962550332186044964noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5567207519106782296.post-62909911870842277052011-05-30T09:54:57.315-05:002011-05-30T09:54:57.315-05:00Glad you guys enjoyed the list!
X_Legend: Joysti...Glad you guys enjoyed the list!

X_Legend: Joystiq mentioned a few things about Karnov that make it so creepy:

1. The music alternates between happy-go-lucky and panic inducing every 20 seconds.
2. The enemies are all totally silent (although the FIsh guy makes some electric noises if I remember)

Good points, imo. Still, I played Karnov for a while last night and managed to get to stage 5 or 6, and the difficulty ramped up to unfair levels. The ladder dragon is a joke, and try using the ladder on the T-Rex if you don't have a shield. Karnov shoots so fast, and the invincibility time is so generous, that you can actually brute force some bosses, despite the 2-hit limit, if you're fast enough.

Some people on some forums also recommended the following games that fit this genre:

Cosmo Police Galivan
Bucky O'Hare
Mistume Gatooru
Moon Crystal
Krion Conquest
Little Nemo the Dream Master

I thought of :

Quantum Fighter Kabuki
Kick Master
Bad Dudes

But I'm not sure those are actually good games. I've always wanted to play through Quantum Fighter Kabuki, maybe I'll do that now for a few hours.

There have to be more action platformers. What about Altered Beast?8bitcityhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07962550332186044964noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5567207519106782296.post-20685707125528360752011-05-30T05:18:22.896-05:002011-05-30T05:18:22.896-05:00Niice.
