I found this awesome Phantasy Star promo art piece today and thought I'd share it. I'll never get enough of the 1980s anime style. The same goes for Phantasy Star in general :D
Nice little find - I haven't seen that before, but you're right about how it just 'feels' like it's from that time - it reminds me of a lot of the covers you saw back then
Parts of the western cover art were definitely based on this. Game was the first RPG - and console game - I owned as a kid, so I definitely can't forget it.
I really miss this era. Would love to see Sega make a more classic style Phantasy Star on the 3DS or Wii U, or even another Portable/Zero style 3DS game with online co-op, at least. Closest we seem to have these days is Capcom's EX Troopers, which looks like it's been influenced pretty heavily by Phantasy Star for a Lost Planet spinoff. I'd even love to see Sega localize those spinoff Game Gear games we never got, Phantasy Star Gaiden and Adventure. But at this point, I'd also just like to see Sega stop burning themselves to the ground over Sony's systems and come back to where their fanbase is on Nintendo platforms these days. Way too much sad news about their overall financial state lately, and they could be doing so much better.
